Gas Turbine Generator Sets refer to the power generation device that uses combustible liquid or gas as fuel to drive alternator with gas turbine as prime mover, and convert mechanical energy into electric energy and thermal energy. It consisted of gas turbine, alternator and control system.
Gas turbine refers to a kind of power device that drive the impeller rotating at high-speed with the gas or liquid fuel as a medium, turn the fuel chemical energy into mechanical energy. in fact, the gas turbine is a rotary vane type of heat engine. The Gas turbines include aviation engines, land gas turbines, and marine gas turbines.
Classification of Gas Turbine Generator Sets:
1. Two categories as the following classified by their industrial usage:
1.1. Light-duty gas turbine, also known as Aero-derivatives, is a type of gas turbine (industrial and marine) that is modified from aero engines and is mainly used for mechanical drive and small power plants;
1.2. Industrial heavy-duty gas turbine is an industrial heavy-duty gas turbine developed following the traditional steam turbine concept, used for mechanical drive and large-scale power plants.
2. According to power output, it can be divided into the following three categories:
2.1. Small gas turbine gensets (1 MW ≤ P < 10 MW)), also known as Aero-derivatives, the smaller sized of these gas turbines in many cases have centrifugal compressors driven by radial inflow turbines, the larger sets in this range are usually axial-flow compressors sometimes combined with a centrifugal compressor at the last stage, and are operated by axial turbines;
2.2. Medium-sized gas turbine gensets (10 MW ≤ P < 100 MW), these are a combination of aeroderivative and frame type turbine gensets. These gas turbine generator sets have axial-flow compressors and axial-flow turbines;
2.3. Large power gas turbine generator sets (P ≥ 100 MW), these are heavy-duty frame type gas turbine generator sets. The large gas turbine generator sets are operating at very high firing temperatures of about 1315 °C with cooling provided by steam, at pressure ratios approaching 35:1.
3. According to the purpose of the Gas Turbine generator sets, it can be classified into two categories: Land-based GT generator sets, and Marine GT generator sets.
■ Land-based GT Generator Sets, including Stationary GT generator sets and Mobile GT generator sets；wherein the Stationary GT generator sets can be classified into Building-mounted GT generator sets, Containerized GT generator sets, and Emergency GT generator sets.
■ Marine GT Generator Sets, including Marine main generator set, Marine electric propulsion system, Power barge, and Offshore platform generator set, etc.
